How to get Fabric 1.20.5 for Minecraft

Minecraft players are having the time of their lives. The version 1.21 update is on its way. To make the wait easier, Mojang Studios has released the 1.20.5 update that added the armadillo and wolf variants to the game, along with customizable wolf armor.

But if you want to play this game version with mods, you’ll need the latest mod launcher, like Fabric. So to help you with that, here’s how to get the Fabric 1.20.5 for Minecraft in a few quick and easy steps.

For those who do not know, Fabric is a mod loader that allows players to add and run mods to Minecraft. Simply downloading the mods would not cut it. The mods need a mod loader to be run and that’s what Fabric does. Thankfully, getting it is quite simple.

Firstly, you need to head over to Fabric’s official website to download it. On the front page of the website, click on "Download for Windows" (if you have a Windows PC) or opt for the Mac version.

After the file's been downloaded, run the exe or jar file. This will open its installation window. You can select Minecraft versions from the dropdown menu. Usually, the latest version is already selected. Ensure the Minecraft Version you choose is 1.20.5 and leave all the other settings as is. Click on Install and wait for it to finish. With that, you've got the latest version of Fabric.

After that, all you need to do is open Minecraft Launcher and select the modded version of Minecraft from the left side of the Launch option. That’s all you need to do to use Fabric’s latest version on your computer. The process is the same on Mac.

An important note is that Fabric 1.20.5 has been updated and requires Java 21 to run. Mojang Studios has announced that the Java Edition of Minecraft will not be supported on 32-bit systems. As such, Fabric 1.20.5 will not work on 32-bit computers, either.

If you want to check whether your PC runs on a 32-bit architecture, head over to Settings in the Control Panel and look for information about your computer and operating system. In case it does, then downloading Fabric would be of little use.
