There are mutual fans of both Minecraft and Five Nights at Freddy's despite one being a survival/creative sandbox game and the other a horror game with plenty of backstory and intriguing animatronic characters. Hence, it's no surprise that many have recreated the world of FNAF within Mojang's beloved sandbox title as maps. However, how can you obtain and play an FNAF map?

The process is a pretty simple one but might require a little knowledge of your Minecraft directory, at least in the Java Edition, to accomplish. With that in mind, it's worth taking a look at how you can download and install a playable FNAF map for either Java or Bedrock (on Windows 10/11 PCs and mobile devices).

If you're playing Minecraft: Java Edition, downloading and installing an FNAF map is a little more complex than it would be for Bedrock. However, with a little knowledge of your computer's operating system, there shouldn't be too many issues to worry about.

You can download and install an FNAF map to Java Edition with these steps:

1. Check out a map site like Planetminecraft, Mcpedl, or Minecraftmaps and find a Five Nights at Freddy's map that catches your attention. Ensure that it matches your version of the game (1.21 for example), as sometimes maps' command blocks won't work as intended if they're included when you play on a mismatched version. Download the map via the site's button or text link and you should receive a compressed archive that's typically in a .zip format.
2. Navigate to the folder you downloaded the map .zip and use a program like 7Zip or WinRAR and extract the .zip archive's folders to a folder you can easily locate.
3. Open your Minecraft Launcher client and select Java Edition; then, click the Installations tab above the splash art.
4. Hover your cursor over the listing that reads "latest release" and click the folder icon next to it to open your game directory. There should be a folder in this directory named "saves".
5. Take the folder you extracted from the .zip file in Step 2 and place it in the "saves" folder.

With Bedrock Edition, the simplest way to import an FNAF map is through the use of a .mcworld file. This can easily be recognized by Bedrock Edition and will automatically import the map to your world list. Fortunately, there are plenty of FNAF maps to be found in this format.

It should be noted that this method is for Bedrock Edition on Windows 10/11 PCs and Android/iOS mobile devices. Sadly, console versions of the game won't be able to import FNAF maps in this fashion. Whatever the case, the steps for importing a FNAF map to Bedrock Edition can be found below:

1. Head to Mcpedl and navigate to maps and then the ".mcpack" category, then find an FNAF map that matches your version of the game.
2. Open the map's page and click "skip to downloads" and then click the link to the map under the section labeled "downloads". You should be directed to a download page where you can receive an .mcpack file for the map.
3. Navigate to the folder you downloaded the .mcworld file to on your device, then open the .mcpack file. Minecraft: Bedrock Edition should open automatically as long as it's installed and add the map to your world list.
4. As an alternative, you can open the game and press your play button, click the boxed arrow button next to the "create new" button, and then select the .mcworld file that way. Either way, the map will be imported to your world browser.
