First of all, it is worth noting that the sweeping edge enchantment is only available for the game's Java Edition. When Mojang developed both Editions, it created different kinds of combat mechanics for them. While you can perform a sweeping attack with swords to hurt other entities in Java Edition, the same cannot be done in Bedrock Edition.
Hence, this particular enchantment is only present in Java Edition.
How to get the sweeping edge in Minecraft?
The sweeping edge enchantment is a common powerup. This means it can be found in both enchanting tables and enchantment books as chest loot.
To get it from the enchanting table, craft an enchanting table and surround it with bookshelves, leaving one block of space between them. Next, place a sword and three lapis lazuli material in the enchanting table's GUI. The table will offer all kinds of enchantments that can be applied to the weapon. You can find a sword on which the enchanting table offers the sweeping edge enchantment.
The other method is exploring various structures to find chests that might have Sweeping Edge inside an enchantment book. You can also find swords with the powerup already applied.
Librarian villagers can also offer you the enchantment through trades. Finally, you can even go fishing during thunderstorms with a fishing rod to get Sweeping Edge enchantment book. However, getting it from fishing is extremely rare since an enchantment book itself is rare and there are several enchantments that you can get from a block of water.
How does Sweeping Edge in Minecraft work?
Sweeping Edge in Minecraft is a special enchantment exclusive to swords. When you craft a sword in Java Edition and use it on mobs, you can perform a sweeping attack. This combat maneuver will not only damage the mob right in front of the crosshair but will also hurt adjacent ones. The attack inflicted on adjacent mobs will only be half a heart.
To perform a sweeping attack, the attack recharge bar right underneath the crosshair should regenerate more than 84.4%.
The sweeping edge in Minecraft has three levels, each with a different percentage of sweeping damage:
- Sweeping Edge Level 1 – 50% sweeping damage
- Sweeping Edge Level 2 – 67% sweeping damage
- Sweeping Edge Level 3 – 75% sweeping damage
This is a great way to attack hordes of hostile mobs at once while knocking them back to get some space. While the sweeping attack can be performed even without the enchantment, the Sweeping Edge helps players increase their attack damage.
