Minecraft 1.21, also known as the Tricky Trials update, introduced a plethora of new content, including two new banner patterns known as the flow and guster patterns. The former depicts a spiral, while the other takes on the likeness of the new breeze mob.
How can you get these new banner patterns and use them for your future building and decoration purposes?
Simply put, you'll have to head to Minecraft 1.21's trial chambers to find these two new banner patterns in Survival Mode, and it may even take a few trial chamber explorations depending on drop rates. However, once you've collected the banner patterns, they work just like their older counterparts.

How to get the flow and guster banner patterns
As previously mentioned, if you want to find the new banner patterns in Minecraft 1.21 without using Creative Mode or the "/give @s flow_banner_pattern" or "/give @s guster_banner_pattern" commands, you'll need to explore the trial chambers. The flow banner pattern is obtained from unlocking ominous vaults while the guster pattern can be obtained from unlocking vaults and opening reward chests.
Vaults and their ominous counterparts can be identified by the skull/key-like textures on the front of the blocks, which open and make a clicking sound when you draw near. Standard vaults will also contain ordinary fire effects inside their block while ominous vaults sport blue flames and are usually flanked by candles.
To open vaults and ominous vaults, you'll need trial keys and ominous trial keys respectively. Ordinary trial keys can be obtained by defeating all of the mobs spawned by trial spawner blocks. Once the mobs are beaten, the trial spawners will have a 50% chance to dispense a trial key before going into cooldown. Meanwhile, ominous trial keys require a little more work.
To get ominous trial keys, you'll first need to consume an ominous bottle (obtained from vaults, ominous vaults, and pillager raid captains outside of raids) to obtain the Bad Omen status effect, then approach a trial chamber/trial spawner to trigger a raid omen, converting trial spawners into ominous trial spawners that have tougher mobs but will have a 30% chance to offer ominous keys when beaten.
It should be noted that regardless of whether you're looting for banner patterns from a vault, an ominous vault, or a reward chest, banner patterns aren't guaranteed. Each pattern has its own appearance rate. Specifically, the flow banner pattern has a 15% appearance chance in ominous vaults while the guster pattern has a 4.2% chance in vaults and reward chests.
How to use the flow and guster banner patterns
To apply these new Minecraft 1.21 banner patterns to a banner, you'll need a loom block. A loom can be crafted by combining two wooden plank blocks of any type (in the bottom-left and bottom-center slots) and two pieces of string (in the center-left and center slots) in the crafting table UI. You can then place the block and right-click on it or press the use/place item button on your controller to open the loom UI.
Going forth, you'll need one of the banner patterns, a banner, and a dye. With the loom UI open, simply place the pattern, the dye, and the banner in their respective slots to the left of the UI, and you'll have a newly made banner featuring the Minecraft 1.21 banner pattern and color of your choice.
