The End dimension is incredibly important to Minecraft. It's the dimension that contains the ender dragon final boss, which is a required fight to see the credits and beat the game. It also contains end cities, which have elytra and shulkers, which you need to hunt down for shulker boxes. However, for as important as the End is, it is also quite underdeveloped.

Thankfully, there are a large number of mods available, specially designed to make the dimension more interesting to explore and conquer. Everything you need to know about installing these mods to improve the End dimension can be found below.

How to update the End using Minecraft mods

1) Open an alternate launcher

The first thing you'll want to do to install mods and update the End dimension is open one of Minecraft's many launchers. There are countless End-related mods on both CurseForge and Modrinth, which means that you can use whichever one you prefer the most.

2) Create a new profile

You'll next want to make a new profile in your preferred launcher. Give it a fitting name to make it easy to identify in the future. Also, you'll need to decide if you want to play on an older version, like 1.20, to have more mods, or if you want to play on 1.21 but with a more limited selection.

You'll also need to decide which mod loader you want to use. Forge tends to have more technical mods, while Minecraft Fabric has more performance- and aesthetic-focused mods.

3) Search the mods section for "End"

With your alternate launcher of choice opened, navigate to the search section and use the term "End." This will bring up any and all mods that use this word in their title.

Some of the best of these mods are YUNG's Better End Island, Endless Biomes, and The Outer End. These mods all add new biomes, mobs, and Minecraft structures to the End, making it feel much fuller. This provides you with many more reasons to return to the dimension multiple times than the base game does.

4) Install mods

Scroll through this list of mods and hit the Install button for any that seem interesting. Make sure to make note of any mods with dependencies and install those as well; otherwise, the game won't run properly.

5) Install extras

This step is optional but highly recommended. Outside of mods, alternate launchers also offer texture packs and shaders for download. Take a few minutes to click through these additional tabs and check for any extra content you want to install.

6) Launch the game

Once all the different mods are installed, your game's End is enhanced and ready to check out. Launch the game and create a new creative mode world.

Use the locate Minecraft command to find a stronghold and travel through it's portal. From here, check to make sure the new content is appearing in the dimension like it should.

Assuming the mods are working, start a new survival world and start preparing to take on all the new threats of the updated End.
