Aside from killing zombies and creating overpowered gear, you can also relax a bit and simply grow crops in your Minecraft base. Farming is an important aspect of the sandbox that allows you to grow various kinds of vegetables to make dishes. To grow crops, you would first need to create farmland, a special variant of dirt block that allows you to sow seeds.

Here is a short guide to making farmland and how to use it to grow various crops in Minecraft.

Making farmland in Minecraft

Making farmland is one of the easiest activities in the game. First, you must know that a regular grass or dirt block can be turned into a farmland block. The only tool you need to make farmland is a hoe. You can establish a farm in the early stages of a new world since even a wooden hoe is enough to convert a grass or dirt block into farmland.

Hoe can be crafted using two wood planks placed horizontally and two sticks placed vertically in the center. The configuration can be seen in the picture above.

After crafting a hoe, you need to hold it in your right hand and right-click on any grass or dirt block to turn it into farmland. Farmland is essentially tilled land that is fertile to plant crops.

After creating a farmland block, you can start planting crops in it as their respective seeds. However, you can also choose to make a more fertile farmland by adding a water block nearby. For this, first, dig a one-block hole and place water in it using a water bucket. Then, convert the nearby grass blocks into farmland. After a point of time, you will notice that the farmland's color has turned dark brown, indicating that it has been watered properly.

One block of water can work on a four-block radius, even diagonally. Hence, players can create an eight-by-eight square around a single water block, and it will be fully fertile for farming.

While sowing seeds and harvesting crops, you should remember to not run around the farmland as it will turn back into a regular dirt block.

Through the method detailed above, you can create a decent farm layout and plant various crops in each row.
