There are many Easter eggs in Minecraft. However, almost every single one of them has been found by the game's community. One of the most famous among them is a trick that involves turning any mob upside down. This ploy is not only hilarious but also harmless since mobs can do everything normally even when they are upside down.

Here is how to get any mob to be upside down in Minecraft.

1) Find a name tag

To get any Minecraft mob upside down, you will first need to find a name tag, a rare item that can be used to name any entity in the game. You can type a name on it using the anvil block and use it on any entity.

Name tags can be found as chest loot in mineshafts, monster rooms, ancient cities, and woodland mansions. They can also be obtained by fishing with a fishing rod or trading with a master-level librarian.

2) Name the name tag Dinnerbone

Once you have a name tag, you need to engrave a special name on it to make any mob upside down. That special name is Dinnerbone.

Create an anvil using iron blocks and ingots, place the name tag on the anvil, and then type the word exactly how it is written above. Once done, you can pick up the name tag from the right-most box.

3) Applying the name tag to any mob

Take that name tag and apply it to any mob that you wish. Be careful while doing so since the name tag cannot be removed if it is applied to a mob once.

As soon as the Dinnerbone name tag is applied, the mob will turn upside down. However, it will have the same walking animation, behavior, and abilities as it used to have.

Story behind Dinnerbone and the upside down Easter egg

This upside-down Minecraft Easter egg was made by a Mojang developer named Nathan Adams, whose username in the game was Dinnerbone. After Java Edition 1.6, he added this hilarious feature to the game.

He was soon known for this Easter egg in the entire community. Even his official X account's display picture is upside-down.
