Weapons, particularly Minecraft swords, are one of the most important parts of a survival playthrough. They are the most common way for players to defend against the many different hostile mobs found throughout the game. This is, in large part, due to the different enchantments and upgrades that can be placed on swords. Having all of these effects will result in an OP god sword.
Everything you need to know about making one of these overpowered god swords can be found in detail below. Making a sword like this should make survival much easier than it otherwise would be.
How to make a god sword for Minecraft survival
1) Craft a diamond sword

The first thing you'll want to do when trying to make an OP survival sword is find the diamonds needed to make a diamond sword. While the diamond isn't the best material in the game anymore, it's required to get the best tier of the sword. Diamond Minecraft ore is most common at Y level -59 if you want to mine for them.
Several Minecraft structures can have diamonds in them spread throughout the game. A full list of these structures can be found below.
- Abandoned mineshafts
- Bastion remnants
- Buried treasures
- Desert pyramids
- End cities
- Jungle pyramids
- Nether fortresses
- Shipwrecks
- Strongholds
- Trial chambers
- Villages
2) Find netherite and an upgrade template
Once you've crafted a diamond sword, you'll need to delve into the Nether to find the upgrades for it. Ancient debris is a very rare, blast-resistant block that can generate in the dimension. This can be turned into netherite scraps, which are then made into ingots and used to upgrade diamond gear.
Ancient debris, netherite scraps, and even netherite ingots can all also be found as Minecraft bastion remnant loot. Since bastions are also where players will find the netherite upgrade template needed to upgrade diamond gear, this is the best way to find these resources.
3) Collect enchanted books
Once you've tracked down the netherite you'll need, it's time to collect all of the enchantments needed for a godsword. There are a total of seven Minecraft enchantments to get on Java Edition and six on Bedrock. A full list of the enchanted books you'll need to find can be found below.
- Sweeping edge (Java Edition only)
- Looting
- Knockback
- Fire Aspect
- Sharpness
- Mending
- Unbreaking
There are a few different ways to try and get these powerful enchantments. One option is to manually craft books and enchant them manually. Eventually, the right effects will pop up; however, this can take quite a while and be very expensive in terms of XP.
A better way to find these books would be to set up a Minecraft villager trading hall filled with librarians. Each librarian will trade a different enchanted book, which can be quickly and easily reset.
4) Combine everything into a god sword
The final thing you'll need to do to get an OP sword is combine everything you've collected so far. You'll need a smithing table to upgrade the diamond sword to the netherite tier. Make sure to make a copy of the netherite template you've found so that you can continue to upgrade diamond gear without having to hunt down more bastions.
Start by combining the enchanted books. Combining the enchanted books rather than with the sword will ensure that the sword doesn't accidentally hit the arbitrary "too expensive" limit on enchanting. This process will cost many levels, as adding more enchantments to an already-enchanted item is very expensive. Make sure to have a Minecraft XP farm nearby to pay the cost.
