How have Minecraft bundles changed since their first announcement four years ago?

Mojang Studios recently announced that the long-lost but highly-coveted bundles are finally coming back to Minecraft. According to the developers' monthly YouTube video, the item will soon arrive in the Bedrock Edition's beta and preview versions. Since it has been nearly four years since bundles were first announced, Mojang Studios have brought a sizable change to the item.

Here are some of the changes the developers made to bundles over the last four years.

Bundles have received a major revamp since they were first introduced in Minecraft Live 2020. Though their outer appearance has not changed a lot, there are some visible differences.

Initially, they were shown as leather pouches with a drawstring with thick ends. However, when they were added to the game in the 1.17 update's snapshots in November 2020, the developers changed the bundles' texture.

The brown color of the leather was much brighter and vibrant, and the drawstring no longer had thick ends. Instead, the entire string was relatively smaller.

UI Changes

While changes in the outer appearance were negligible, the main thing that took Mojang Studios four years to pull off was perfecting its UI design.

When bundles were first introduced for Minecraft, the developers understood that its UI would cause a lot of problems for Bedrock Edition players, especially those who were on smaller consoles or smartphones.

Hence, they worked hard on updating its UI for both Editions to make it accessible for everyone.

At first, the items inside bundles were shown as a random cluster whenever players hovered over it. Soon, Mojang Studios improved the UI design and made it look like inventory slots, which could be filled with different items. The bundle had up to nine slots that could take up to 64 units of one or multiple items.

Its UI design became one of the main reasons why they decided not to release bundles to Minecraft sooner. They kept it under wraps for several years while focusing on more important bug fixes and upcoming updates.

Interaction with bundles

Bundles are items in Minecraft in which players can store and take out multiple items from. This mechanism of storing in and taking out items was also worked upon by Mojang Studios. In several Java Edition snapshots, they tried to fix how a bundle would empty its contents when a player interacts with it in or outside their inventory.
