How Minecraft now has an imbalance of feature list between its dimensions

Since Minecraft's release in 2011, Mojang has been actively working to bring loads of new features to the sandbox every year. The studio has expanded all three dimensions: Overworld, Nether, and the End. Even though players crave a new dimension, many are still satisfied with just three. However, what's bugging them is how empty the third and last dimensions are compared to others.

One could argue that, in the past few years, Mojang has focused on expanding the already feature-rich Overworld, and has not brought much to the End realm. This has created an imbalance between Minecraft dimensions.

Minecraft's first and last dimensions have a massive imbalance in terms of feature list

After releasing the 1.16 Nether update in 2020, Mojang's focus shifted to the Overworld. The studio decided to bring a massive update called Caves and Cliffs, which saw a complete change in world generation, the creation of a new cave system, three brand new cave biomes, a cave structure, a blind hostile mob, and much more. This update was so big that the developers had to release it in two parts over a year and a half.

Next came the 1.19 Wild Update, where even more Overworld biomes, mobs, wood types, etc., were added. The same went for 1.20 and 1.21 updates. Most major features that arrived in Minecraft were for the Overworld realm. Several new cave and surface biomes were introduced, and a whole host of mobs, blocks, and items.

Since Nether already received a major update in 2020, not many players were craving new features in the hellish realm. For the End dimension, however, many in the community craved all kinds of features. The discussion of a major "End update" has taken place for many months now.

While Mojang has continued to fix bugs that occur in the End, the desolate area hasn't received any significant new features for more than four years. This is one of the main reasons the number of features might feel unbalanced when all three dimensions are compared.

A general progression of the game could be disturbed due to the imbalance

In games, when players progress through several areas, they expect an increased amount of features that are more powerful than before. This, however, might not be possible in Minecraft.

While the End realm does have overpowered items like elytra and shulkers, and allows players to create powerful mob farms, it does not offer anything more than that, especially when compared to Overworld and even Nether.

Overworld has lots of biomes, mobs, blocks, and items, so much so that players might not even feel the need to head to the End realm anymore. The new bundles can act as cheap shuckers, while various ridable mobs, rail systems, and trident hopping might be preferred more than elytra.
