Minecraft recently released the new leaf litter half block in the latest 25w02a snapshot for Java Edition. This is part of the game's upcoming drop, which Mojang Studios is currently working on. While the new block is great for decorative purposes, it can play an important role in helping new players start a new world.
When leaf litter is released, it could give stiff competition to coal, which has been an important resource in Minecraft for years.

How leaf litter can become an alternative to coal in Minecraft
Leaf litter can be used as fuel
Players must understand that leaf litter will be generated in biomes like forests, dark forests, and wooded badlands. These can be found in abundance, generating on most grass blocks.
Soon after leaf litter was introduced in the Minecraft snapshot 25w02a, it was discovered that it could be used as fuel in furnaces, blast furnaces, and smokers. Even though two leaf litters are consumed to smelt one item in any of the three smelters, it can become a viable fuel source.
Leaf litter's abundance will make it a great alternative to cold
As mentioned, leaf litter is found in abundance in biomes where it is generated. Most grass blocks will have anywhere between one and four leaf litter half blocks. On the other hand, players will need to find coal ores in various terrains and mine them with a pickaxe.
Since leaf litter is widely available in forest biomes and can be picked up without any tool, it can become a great alternative to coal, especially for new players who want a decent amount of fuel quickly.
Other uses and effects of leaf litter
Apart from being used as a fuel in Minecraft, leaf litter is mainly being added to enhance the overall ambiance of forest biomes since Mojang is focusing completely on ambiance with new features.
Furthermore, leaf litter can also be picked and placed in four different stages on a block. This will allow players to create unique designs with the new block on the floor.
