Villagers in Minecraft are one of the game's most fascinating mobs. They have a set routine alongside different professions. Working villagers have the ability to trade items or emeralds with players. In August 2023, Mojang Studios released an experimental feature called villager trade rebalance, which brought drastic changes to the trading system.

Though this feature is still under the experimental section, it could encourage players to travel the map even more once it is released.

First, players must understand what the villager trading rebalance will bring if it is ever released officially.

Librarian villagers are considered the most overpowered variant of the mob since they can offer an enchanted book with most enchantments, including treasure ones. Players have gradually found a trick to break and replace the lectern to shuffle their trading list and get any enchanted book they want.

Wandering traders is another mob that usually spawns randomly in a generated chunk and sells items to players. However, the items sold by the wandering trader did not end up being too useful to players, with the prices feeling too high as well.

These issues were first addressed with the villager trade rebalance. As part of this, Mojang Studios heavily nerfed the librarians and buffed wandering traders.

With the new trading rebalance, Librarians offer certain enchanted books depending on which biome they spawn in, with the type of enchantment split into special and regular. Additionally, wandering traders' prices were lowered and more trades were added to their trading UI, increasing their usefulness.

Apart from librarians, many other professional villagers like cartographers, and armorers, also received major changes to their trades. They all have different trading lists based on the biome they spawn in.

Previously, players could simply head to a village, find professional villagers, and start trading items with them. They could either find a librarian or employ one with a lectern. If they were not selling the desired enchanted book, the lectern was mined and placed again, reshuffling the trading list.

This particular tactic will not work if villager trading rebalance officially releases in Minecraft. Players will only find a handful of enchanted books from librarians spawned in a certain biome. This means that players will have to venture out into the world to get varied trading lists from librarians, cartographers, armorers, and other villagers.

Some of the rarest and best trades from these villagers could come from biomes that villagers do not spawn naturally in, like jungles and swamps. Players will have to take regular villagers to these biomes and breed them to spawn rare villagers that spawn in these non-village areas. When they are employed, they will offer those rare trades.
