Minecraft is one of the world's most popular games, with millions playing it worldwide across different devices and platforms. It is available for PC, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS, Nintendo, Xbox, and the PlayStation 4. But one device was missing from the list for years: the PlayStation 5.

The console was released at the end of 2020, and even after almost four years of release, Mojang didn't release Minecraft for the PlayStation 5. The PlayStation 4 version was the only way to play the game on the latest PS5.

The game's Preview version is finally out for the PlayStation 5, and here’s how you can play it. It is an experimental or beta version that might contain some bugs and errors. With that in mind, let’s get started.

Getting the Preview version of the game on the PS5 is quite simple and quick. Note that you must own the PS4 version of the game on your PS5 to get the Preview. If you do not own it, here’s how you can do it:

  • Go to the PlayStation Store either on your PS5 or on your computer (with your PS account logged in).
  • Search for Minecraft and buy it. Once the game is bought, install the game on your PS5.
  • Launch the game and log in using your Mojang or Microsoft account.

Once the game is installed and you have logged in, here’s how you can play the PS5 version of Minecraft:

  • From the main page of the game, head over to the Settings of the game.
  • Here, look for “Preview” and open it to run the PS5 version of the game.

One question you might have is what makes the Preview version for PS5 different from the game's PS4 version. Well, if you're experiencing something huge, you would be disappointed, at least for now.

The PS5 version of the game is different mostly on the technical side as it uses the powerful hardware of the PS5 to run the game better and smoother. This Preview version will also use the PS5’s DualSense controller and all the features that come with it.

Do note that since this is the Preview version, expect bugs and errors while running the game, and it would help Mojang a lot if you reported bugs so that they can iron those out and release a stable and better version. The Preview version also comes with all the new features of the Tricky Trials update.
