Minecraft has received some exciting new features, including the Creaking mob, the pale garden biome, and the Pale Oak tree as part of the much-awaited The Garden Awakens game drop. These features come together to create a unique experience that has made players hail it as one of the coolest biomes. Among others, the creaking stands out as the most haunting feature of them all.

This guide explains how you can spawn the new hostile mob naturally as well as by using a set of in-game commands.

The Creaking spawns naturally only in the pale garden biome, where no other animal mobs spawn. That said, you can make them spawn in any biome you want. All you need to find is the Creaking Heart. Tools enchanted with the Silk Touch enchantment can be used to break it. Using any other tool will result in its destruction.

Once you have the Creaking Heart, you will need blocks of pale oak wood to “activate” the heart. When the Creaking Heart is broken, it becomes disabled. To summon the Creaking, turn its heart into the dormant stage and then to the activated stage.

Here are the steps to make the heart active and spawn the Creaking:

  • Take the Creaking Heart to any biome you want.
  • This item can be placed in different orientations just like wood logs.
  • You can place the heart anywhere you want but make sure it sits between two pale oak wood blocks that are in the same orientation.
  • Orientation and placement are key factors in converting the Creaking heart’s state to dormant.
  • The pale oak wood blocks and the Creaking Heart must have the same orientation.

Once you have placed all the items correctly, the Creaking Heart will have a faint orange glow, which means it has become dormant. All you have to do is wait for nightfall, as the Creaking only spawns at night. Once this hostile mob has spawned, the heart becomes activated.

An activated Creaking Heart needs to be destroyed or broken to be disabled. Removing the pale oak wood blocks from the sides will not deactivate the heart, or despawn the Creaking mob.

Like any other mob, the Creaking can also be summoned using commands. Before doing so, enable them from the game menu. You can do this by pausing the game and then clicking Open to LAN>>Allow Cheats: ON>>Start LAN World.

Once enabled, use the following command to spawn the Creaking:

  • /summon minecraft:creaking ∼∼∼

The "∼" symbol refers to the coordinates where you want the mob to spawn.

What does the Creaking do in Minecraft?

The Creaking is a hostile mob that can be found in the pale garden biome. While its purpose has not been defined, it is more of an extension of the Creaking Heart. This mob adds an interesting gameplay mechanic. When you are looking at it, the Creaking will not attack.

However, breaking eye contact will result in the hostile mob attacking. What makes this more interesting is the Creaking does not take any damage, no matter how many times it is attacked. The only way to kill it is by destroying or breaking the Creaking Heart. Note that finding the heart becomes much more challenging when you have to constantly keep an eye on the Creaking.
