Minecraft is a game of infinite scale, which means that you can travel thousands of blocks in one direction and still barely reach anywhere near the border. This also means that if you are away from your base where your pets live, it would be very difficult for you to get back to them and impossible for them to walk to you. In situations like these, the most useful thing you can do is use the teleport command.

Using the teleport command in Minecraft allows you to either appear directly next to your pet or make them come to your current location. This happens instantly and requires just a few steps.

The moment you get a pet, it is important to name it so that you can use the name in the teleport command. Also, to use any commands in Minecraft, you need to enable them. To do that, follow these steps:

  • Pause the game to open the pause menu.
  • Open to LAN.
  • Here, select Allow Cheats: ON.
  • Go back to the game.

This is quite easy to do, but will disable achievements. Now, let’s look at the process of you teleporting yourself to the pet’s location. The command for it is:

/tp @s @e[name=Petname]

/tp is how you start the teleport command. The @s tells the game that you are referring to the player. The @e refers to the entity. In the bracket, mention the name of the pet so that the game knows which entity it should teleport you to.

If you want the pet to be teleported to you, it can be done easily by just moving a few things. Here’s the command for it:

/tp @e[name=Pet name] @s

Everything remains the same, but instead of telling the player to be teleported to the entity (with the name of the pet to specify it), the command tells the game to teleport it to the player. Do note that if you do not specify the pet's name, it will teleport all the entities to your location. This includes villagers, mobs, parrots, etc.

Do note that if you have named your player the same as the name of the entity (for example, naming the wolf “wolf"), it will teleport all the entities of the same name to you.
