Minecraft's many different structures are some of its most interesting features. The bastion remnant, added in the fan-favorite 1.16 update, is one of the game's best structures in terms of loot, design, and challenge. These structures are chock full of incredible items, such as netherite upgrade templates, ancient debris, and gold items.
Everything you need to know to loot bastion remnants for abundant gold can be found in this article. This should ensure that you have enough of this rare resource for potential builds and projects.
How to loot a bastion remnant for Minecraft gold
1) Go to the Nether

Since bastion remnants are a Nether-exclusive Minecraft structure, you'll need to make a portal and enter this dimension. Since Nether portals require an obsidian frame, you'll either need a diamond pickaxe to mine the blocks or a lava pool to utilize the bucket method of making a portal.
2) Find a bastion
Once you've entered the Nether, you'll need to take on the hardest part of this process: actually finding a bastion remnant. These structures aren't very common and can spawn in all Nether biomes other than basalt deltas. This means there's no great way to narrow down the search area when looking for them.
The best advice is to try and stick to soul sand valleys and Nether wastes, as they tend to have more open layouts. This makes it easier to see distant spots while hunting.
Additionally, Minecraft seedmapping tools, such as Chunkbase, can take a seed and show you exactly where all of the bastion remnants in your world are found. Whether or not this is considered cheating will depend on how you look at these external tools, but it's a useful last resort.
3) Take out hostile mobs
Once you've found a bastion remnant, the temptation might be to rush in and get to looting. Don't do this. Piglins and piglin brutes are exceptionally dangerous Minecraft mobs. Take your time and use a bow to pick off these mobs on the way in. Regular piglins will respawn, but piglin brutes are set mobs, meaning, once killed they are gone forever.
4) Profit
Once you've cleared out a few hostile mobs, it's time to get to looting. The safest way to do this is to mine through the walls of the Minecraft bastion to avoid any respawning piglins. Even wearing gold armor won't help, as piglins will get angry at you whenever you break gold or loot chests near them.
There are a few different areas to check for gold, depending on the type of bastion. A full list of bastion types and the gold loot they can contain is detailed below.
Additionally, gilded blackstone, which will sometimes drop golden nuggets, generates as part of bastion remnant terrain. While not a huge source of gold, it can give you a few extra ingots if you mine all of it. Blocks of gold will also sometimes generate as part of bastion remnant terrain, so keep an eye out for them.
