Minecraft commands allow you to add or change numerous things about the game. You can add and remove structures, flatten areas, add particles, and do a lot of tweaking in your world using these simple commands. One example is the /fog command which allows you to add a layer of fog in your world.

This article will explain the process of using the fog command in Minecraft. Do note that this is a Bedrock Edition exclusive command and cannot be used in Java Edition.

Before you start using the fog command, or any other command in the game, you need to enable commands in your world. If you are creating a new world for it, then you can check the “Enable Cheats” option beforehand. However, if you have already created a world, you need to enable cheats.

Follow these steps to get that done. Do note that enabling cheats will disable achievements in the world. Using commands is considered cheating.

  • After you open the world, pause the game.
  • In the pause menu, select the “Open to LAN” option.
  • Here, toggle the “Allow Commands” to on and then click on “Start LAN world.”

Once you are done with it, you will be able to use the commands in the world. Now that cheats are usable, let’s look at how you can use the fog command.

Using the /fog command

As already established, the /fog command allows you to add a layer of fog in your Minecraft world. This can be done around the world or also for a specific player. You can also select the type of fog you want to add to the world. If you do not know the specific names, try choosing different ones from the pop-up options and finding whatever suits your needs the best.

The command for adding fog in the world is:

/fog <player name> push <fog ID> <user ID>

For example, let’s say there is a player named “John” in the game, and you want to add the fog from the Warped Forest from the Nether dimension. The command should look like this:

/fog John push “minecraft:fog_warped_forest” “fog_test”

The last name shown here as “fog test” is just an ID given to the fog. You can name it anything you want. If you want the fog to be around you, you can write “@p” instead of the player's name (John in this example). Once you have added the fog, you can also use the remove command to get rid of it.

The command to remove the fog from the game is:

/fog <player name> remove <name of the fog>

Here, the name of the fog refers to the name you have assigned to it when adding the fog layer. This is how you can add or remove the fog in Minecraft.
