In recent Minecraft updates, Mojang Studios released a few light-emitting blocks that players can use to brighten up their structures. Two of the most notable blocks were froglights released with the 1.19 Wild update, and copper bulbs that came with the 1.21 Tricky Trials update. Froglights, as the name suggests, are related to frog mobs, while copper bulbs were introduced with the new trial chamber structure.

While both of them are great decorative blocks, copper bulbs have a slight edge over foglights. Let us see why.

Aspects in which copper bulbs are better than froglights in Minecraft

Copper bulbs are easier to obtain than froglights

Froglights are obtained by frogs when they eat the smallest magma cubes. Since there are three different kinds of frogs spawning in different locations, all three of them drop different froglights.

However, the process can be quite tedious if players want loads of froglights, particularly because frogs are uncommon animals in Minecraft. On top of this, either frogs or magma cubes must be transferred to the Nether or the Overworld, respectively. Only then will the frogs be able to eat magma cubes.

Placing magma cubes and frogs in the same dimension can be quite tricky, especially since the former is hostile towards players.

On the other hand, loads of copper bulbs can be easily obtained from a trial chamber. It is worth mentioning that trial chambers are also a relatively rare structure to find. However, once a player finds it, they can get many copper bulbs from it. One full-sized trial chamber can house at least 30 to 40 copper bulbs.

Copper bulbs can also be crafted using four blocks of copper, one redstone dust, and one blaze rod. Whereas there is no way to craft froglights.

Copper bulbs can interact with redstone

Unlike froglights, copper bulbs can interact with redstone. Since redstone dust is used to craft these light blocks, they can be connected to any redstone contraption and be used in different ways. Blocks like comparator and observer can detect redstone signal readings of the lit and unlit copper bulb.

Since redstone contraptions are a massive aspect of Minecraft, this functionality gives a massive edge to copper bulbs over froglights.

Copper bulbs' design is better than that of froglights

Even though this is a completely subjective take, copper bulbs generally look better than froglights.

Copper bulbs have a more industrial and unique design with copper edges, while froglights simply look like generic light blocks. Furthermore, copper bulbs' oxidation functionality can help players set different light levels for each block, altering the overall mood of an area.

Though froglights have three different hues, the light they emit does not have any specific colors. That being said, the light block could have been interesting to use if Mojang Studios implemented different colored lights for each froglight.
