There are a ton of mobs in Minecraft. While some of these mobs, like the creeper, ender dragon, and even the recent warden, have become beloved and iconic features of the game, others aren't so lucky. These mobs are either forgotten by most players due to a lack of features or seen as active hindrances to enjoying the game because of how they work.

The seven best examples of these unpopular Minecraft mobs can be found detailed below, along with what exactly makes them so disappointing.

The 7 least popular mobs in all of Minecraft

7) Polar bear

Polar bears are the first of a few mobs on this list that aren't really hated; they're just seen as fillers if players remember them at all. Added in the 1.10 Frostburn Major Minecraft update, these mobs don't do all that much. They wander around aimlessly in frozen areas and can sometimes drop fish when killed.

Their most interesting behavior is that they change from a neutral mob to a hostile mob if they're near a baby polar bear. They'll attack any player that dares get too close to their offspring. However, the lack of unique drops or mechanics means that there's no reason to interact with them at all.

6) Frogs

Frogs might initially seem like a strange mob to be featured on a list of disliked and least popular mobs. However, some in the community blame them for the removal of fireflies from The Wild Update. After learning that some species of frog will die after eating fireflies, Mojang removed them from the update, so this position isn't wrong either.

While being hated is inarguably worse than being boring, frogs are looked down on by a small enough section of the community that they simply can't make it further down the list. They also tend to be quite liked by those without this opinion, which also keeps them from ending up further down the list.

5) Bats

Bats are the epitome of useless mobs, as they don't do anything. They spawn in and fly around aimlessly until they despawn. Players can't interact with them outside of killing them, and they have no unique or interesting behaviors. They're honestly more of a particle effect than a mob.

This is exactly what makes them so frustrating. Bats take up a spot in the mob cap and provide literally nothing of note, or even interest, to players. The game would be identical without them around.

4) Wandering traders

There are two main issues with wandering traders: they take forever to spawn, and their trade table is completely random. They're great in Minecraft challenges like superflat survival, as they're often the only way to get some items. However, waiting several hours to get nothing new is very frustrating.

In normal Minecraft worlds, however, they're just as bad. They're not interesting and they don't offer players anything that isn't easy to just collect. They might be better if their prices were lower, but they're just seen as useless right now. Thus, wandering traders are useless at best and actively frustrating at worst. It's easy to see why they're one of the least popular mobs in the game.

3) Endermites

Endermites are an active nuisance for Minecraft ender pearl users. Think of the different ways ender pearls are used: a last-ditch panic escape option, to make difficult jumps, and to travel quickly. All of these are made worse thanks to the chance for an endermite to spawn.

An escaping player might survive their ender pearl throw at half a heart, just to die to the spawning endermite. A Minecraft parkour player might make a difficult jump, just to get pushed off the ledge by the endermite as it appears. Players wanting to use pearls to move quickly will take even more damage from spawning endermites, making food get used up even faster and slowing them down.

Endermites land so high on the list of least-liked mobs since they're actively awful 99% of the time. The only circumstance where they're not annoying to see is when they're being added to a Minecraft enderman XP farm.

2) Glow squid

Glow squids are another great example of Mojang overpromising and underdelivering. The teaser video for glow squids implied two things: the mobs would glow and they could potentially hypnotize those who looked at them. Neither of these things are true.

They don't glow; not really. Their texture isn't affected by lighting, making them very bright, yes, but they don't emit light like players were led to believe they would. And they're completely passive and useless, outside of their drop. There's not even a hint of the hypnotizing effect they were shown to have in their trailer video, leading them to be seen as very disappointing by the community.

If it weren't for glow ink being a pretty useful building item, they would almost certainly have been forgotten about by the majority of the community. The false advertising that landed them in the game, however, is more than enough to make them one of the game's least-liked mobs.

1) Phantoms

Phantoms are by far the least popular mob in Minecraft. These otherworldly beings will attack players who fail to sleep for three days straight. They drop phantom membranes, which can be used to make slow-falling Minecraft potions and repair elytra. On the surface, this doesn't seem bad, but phantoms are just so annoying.

They make awful sounds, they're hard to hit, they make it harder to sleep and get rid of them since they count as monsters, and by the time you need to repair an elytra, you probably have mending, so their drop isn't even that useful. There's even a Minecraft command specifically to turn them off, which proves just how disliked they are.

They're a total letdown of a Minecraft mob, especially when compared to the fascinating other creatures pitched in the first mob vote. The fact that the phantom is the mob that one the historic first mob vote makes the fact that it's essentially nothing but an annoyance even more insulting. Such an important mob in the history of the game should be famous, not infamous.
