When Mojang announced the Minecraft 1.21 update in October 2023, one of the first new features they disclosed was new copper and tuff blocks. Both materials that didn't have much use in the game suddenly became quite fascinating. The new copper and tuff blocks will naturally generate in the new trial chambers but can also be crafted manually.
While the developers brilliantly added uses to both copper and tuff in the Minecraft 1.21 update, some existing building blocks can still receive new features.

New copper and tuff blocks in Minecraft 1.21 update
Mojang introduced new copper and tuff blocks, along with talking about the new trial chambers. The structure comprised unique tuff blocks and a few existing and new copper blocks.
While most tuff blocks are for building, some new copper blocks are also redstone-activated.
Here's a list of all the new tuff blocks coming with the Minecraft 1.21 update:
- Tuff slab
- Tuff stairs
- Tuff wall
- Polished Tuff

On the other hand, here's a list of all the new copper blocks coming with the new update:
- Chiseled Copper
- Copper door
- Copper trapdoor
- Copper bulb
- Copper grate
All the abovementioned copper blocks have three other variants based on their oxidation and four waxed variants. All copper blocks can be renewed when players scrape them with an axe.
Copper bulb is the only block with special features since it's a light-emitting block. It can be activated by passing a redstone signal through it.
Existing building blocks that can receive new features
While the new copper and tuff blocks are great additions, there are still loads of building blocks already present in the game that can get loads of new features to make them much more useful.
Some blocks, like diorite, granite, calcite, and even andesite, have been in Minecraft for several years. Unfortunately, they have not received any major updates in recent history. Hence, they are not considered the best building blocks and are only used to enhance a biome or cave's overall ambiance.
These simple stone blocks could become a lot more useful if Mojang adds new items, weapons, or any other feature.
