Minecraft 1.22 update is not yet announced
Mojang hasn't shared a lot of information about Minecraft's upcoming update as of yet. The developers usually announce the next major update during their annual live event.
However, this year, they only talked about two small game drops that will add a handful of features to the sandbox title, and there was no mention of the next major installment. Moreover, since the bigger update has not been announced, there is no information about what the developers could add to it as well.
As of now, there are only speculations and discussions that they should add new dimensions, or completely overhaul the End realm.
Will Mojang ever release a Minecraft 1.22 update?
Before their live event in September, Mojang released a blog post talking about the future of their update cycle. In this post, they talked about making smaller game drops more frequent instead of developing major updates that will be slower to publish. However, the developers have also mentioned that they do have bigger plans for the sandbox game in the future.
Another major point in the blog post was that the Minecraft Live event will be split into two parts. In fact, the one that took place in September can be considered the first of two that Mojang will be hosting each year. So, it is safe to say that the Swedish game company has not revealed everything they have planned for the next year.
All this information implies that there could be a Minecraft 1.22 update in the future. However, there is no confirmation whether these major update releases will take place each year or not, particularly because Mojang is more focused on smaller game drops.
What are smaller game drops?
One of the main reasons for not announcing the 1.22 update was the recent change in the development cycle. As mentioned in the previous section, Mojang mentioned that they will mainly release smaller updates in the form of game drops.
These drops will contain two or three new features but will be released more frequently throughout the year.
In the Minecraft Live event in September, Mojang announced the first two game drops coming this year. The first one will come with the 1.21.2 game version and will bring bundles and hardcore mode to Bedrock Edition. Meanwhile, the second one will contain the 1.21.3 game version and bring the new Creaking mob and Pale Garden biome.
It is worth noting that these features are not part of the 1.22 update, which Mojang has not shared any information about.
