Apollyon, created by GamerCraftZ, is one of the most iconic Minecraft mods of all time. However, what makes it stand out from other horror mods for the game is the inclusion of not only a new hostile mob but also an interesting structure with a terrifying entity.
Everything you need to know about the Apollyon mod, from its major features to how to install it, can be found detailed below.

Apollyon adds a new and terrifying entity to Minecraft known as the Damned, which spawns in dark areas, such as the surface at night and in caves. It will wander around until a player gets too close. At this point, it will stop, smile, point at the player, and begin its hunt.
Apollyon stands out as a Minecraft horror mod due to its more unique visual spin on a hostile mob, as well as its genuinely creepy animations. It also features a new villager type called the infector.
The infector is found within an abandoned structure, seemingly injured. It gives you a bit of backstory as you interact with it, culminating in it warning you to leave. This warning is paired with the villager starting to shake before a stronger, more spider-like version of the regular Damned mob bursts out of it. This mob will then attack anyone nearby before escaping.
As the mob escapes, there's quite an ominous warning that an infection has started in the world through an advancement.
Having such a strange and well-done mixture of lore, gameplay features, and scares makes Apollyone by far one of the best horror mods out there.
How to install the Apollyon mod
1) Launch CurseForge
The first thing you'll need to do to install the Apollyon mod is start up CurseForge. This alternative Minecraft launcher will handle the installation of mods automatically, which makes it much easier than downloading and installing them manually.
2) Search for the Apollyon mod
You'll next want to use the search bar at the top of CurseForge to search for "Apollyon." Thankfully, it's easy to install the right mod, as Apollyon should be the only search result that appears.
3) Install it
Hit the orange "Install" button to the right of the mod. This will prompt you to either add it to an existing Minecraft modpack or create a new CurseForge installation for the mod. Either of these options will work.
4) Find extra mods, shaders, and texture packs
Take a few extra minutes before launching the game to look through the Minecraft shaders, resource packs, and other mods that are available. Install any that seem like they might be interesting in combination with Apollyon.
5) Prepare for nightfall
Once you've finished installing content, return to the profile's home screen and hit the orange "Play" button to the right. From here, you'll need to make a new Minecraft survival world and prepare for what horrors might be waiting at night.
