Minecraft is a game played by millions of players and is available on Windows, Mac, smartphones, and consoles. While the game on different platforms might look the same on the surface level, there are some small but crucial differences between the Java and Bedrock Edition. One such difference that sticks out like a sore thumb is the lack of sweeping attacks in Bedrock Edition.
Minecraft Java Edition has had the sweeping attack that is exclusive to the sword for years. But players have been waiting for this simple feature to be ported to the Bedrock version as it comes with one very useful enchantment called “Sweeping Edge.”

While both the Bedrock and Java Edition have swords as weapons, they attack in different ways. In Bedrock, players can only use the sword to strike. But in the Java Edition, players can perform a sweep attack, which can be made even more powerful by using the Sweeping edge enchantment.
The Sweeping edge enchantment comes in three different levels without using any commands, and they increase the attack power by 50%, 67%, and 75%, respectively. What’s even great is that this can be paired with other enchantments, such as Sharpness and Smite.
The game would benefit a lot if sweep attack is added to Bedrock Edition, as the majority of Minecraft players have Bedrock Edition, which is standard for every device except PC and Mac. This includes PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and all the Android and iOS smartphones. That’s a lot of players who still do not have access to this sword attack type and the Sweeping edge enchantment.
But the hope is still alive. Mojang Studios is slowly but surely working on making all the differences between the two versions obsolete. For example, the Java Edition recently got the ability to leash boats, which was already present in the Bedrock Edition. The latter also got Java Edition’s world generation.
Perhaps in future updates, Mojang Studios will add more content and update features, eventually making just one version for all devices and platforms. It is unlikely that all the differences will be dissolved in the 1.22 update, but we can expect it to make the line between the two editions thinner.
