Farms in Minecraft allow players to generate a particular item without having to actively grind for them. The game’s community has come up with great ideas to make mob and item farms, and they keep improving the designs to make them more efficient. Many of these farms work by exploiting some minor bugs in the game.
The zero tick kelp farm also functioned with the help of one such bug, but the latest Minecraft 1.21.30 update have ruined it completely. This article will look into how the kelp farm became useless and why it might never be fixed.
Minecraft 1.21.30 breaks the zero tick kelp farm

For almost four years, players have been using a game mechanic to get unlimited kelp. To newcomers, kelp might sound like a simple item that is neither rare nor useful. However, dried kelp can come in handy as a fuel and food source. So making a kelp farm made quite a bit of sense.
However, with the release of the latest 1.21.30 for the Bedrock edition, this is not possible anymore. A few minor behavioral tweaks for some blocks have rendered the farm unusable. This is because the farm took advantage of a bug that was officially reported in 2021.
This bug would allow water to be moved from the server side but not from the client. So, all players needed to do was to place a slab and then a sticky piston above it, facing the slab with one block of distance between them. Then, they would waterlog the slab before activating and subsequently deactivating the sticky piston.
In the latest Bedrock 1.21.30 update, vertically retracting waterlogged blocks with pistons will no longer create “ghost water” on the client side. This means that the zero tick kelp farm will not work as there will be no water for the kelp to grow.
As of the present, this has completely broken the zero tick kelp farm and there is no workaround. Players who want to keep using it will have to refrain from downloading the latest update and subsequently, the upcoming major updates as it will fix this bug permanently.
Meanwhile, players who have already updated to the new update can easily download older versions of the game using the Minecraft Launcher’s Installation tab and selecting any version of their preference.
