Back in 2020, when Mojang Studios was working on the Minecraft 1.17 Caves and Cliffs update, they introduced and added amethyst to the game. It is a special type of underground rock formation that occurs in real life as well. Staying true to how it looks in real life, the developers added blobs of amethyst generating underground. These were called amethyst geodes.
Here is a short guide to finding amethyst geodes and how to use different kinds of amethyst blocks.

The moment players start digging with their pickaxe and head underground in the Overworld, they will have a small chance of finding amethyst in the form of amethyst geodes. These geodes, as mentioned before, are small blobs inside which amethyst blocks are generated. The outer layer of a geode is made up of smooth basalt, followed by calcite, and then amethyst.
There is no one best Y level to find amethyst geodes, since players can find it anywhere between Y level 30 and -58. It is worth noting that whenever a new chunk is created, it has a 4% chance to generate a geode. This means that in every 24 chunks that get created, one of them could have an amethyst geode in it.
There are two ways to find one in Minecraft: by branch mining in various levels, or to explore a massive cave between Y level 30 and -58.
Geodes can either be found completely intact and covered or cracked open. Usually, cracked amethyst geodes are common in large caves.
How to get and use amethyst blocks in Minecraft
Once players find an amethyst geode, they will be able to get inside and find the gorgeous-looking amethyst blocks and clusters. When players walk on them, they will sound like soothing wind chimes.
Full amethyst blocks can be normally mined with a pickaxe and can be placed anywhere. While budding amethyst is a block that cannot be obtained by players, even with a silk touch pickaxe. Amethyst clusters can be obtained as it is with a silk touch pickaxe but drop regular amethyst shards when mined normally.
Both amethyst blocks and clusters are some of the best building and decorative blocks players can use in Minecraft. They are extremely beautiful and even make special sound effects when walked on.
