In Minecraft, players can find all kinds of structures and loot them for resources. However, there are random hidden chests located in the world that are called buried treasure chests. These chests have some of the best loot in the game like diamonds, heart of the sea, emeralds, etc. The only catch is that finding them can be slightly tricky.

Over the years, however, the player base has found a trick to find the buried treasure chests accurately without fail.

This method can be used after players get a buried treasure map from a shipwreck's chest. The shipwreck can either be found underwater or on the beach.

Once the map opens, players will see a red cross and their current location as a white or pointed dot. First, they must reach the red cross marking where the buried treasure chest will be located.

After they are near it, their pointed dot should face the top of the map, and they should be exactly in line with the red cross. Once they overlap their pointed dot with the red cross and keep moving back, they will start seeing a small white area protruding from the bottom of the red cross.

If players are perfectly aligned as shown in the picture above, they can remove the buried treasure map and dig straight down. The chest can either be on land or underwater, but it will mostly be covered with sandblocks.

Checking chunk numbers (Java Edition only)

If players are unable to find the treasure map by aligning themselves on the map, there is another method that uses Minecraft's chunk information.

In most cases, a buried treasure chest is located at the center of a chunk. One way of finding whether players are on the right block of a chunk is by going into the debug screen. This screen can be accessed by pressing F3 on the keyboard on Java Edition.

The debug screen will have lots of numbers and information, but players only need to look at the right side of the screen and see the XYZ line in the second list of information.

This will show the exact coordinates of a player, but will also show which block they are on in that particular chunk under square brackets.

When players reach the red cross, they can open this screen and aim to find the block that will show both the first and third numbers as 9, which will essentially be the center of the chunk.

Players can dig down in that exact area to instantly find the buried treasure chest.
