Minecraft fan discovers a mistake with new falling leaves effects in the latest snapshot

Minecraft players are preparing for some amazing new upcoming features and items. The developers at Mojang announced the first update drop of 2025, and it brings four new additions. The crafting recipe for lodestone has changed, wildflowers and leaf litter have been added, the pig has two new variants based on the temperature of the biome, and there's a falling leaves effect.

However, Redditor Timonion1 shared an image on Minecraft's subreddit, showing a leaf particle falling from the coniferous tree, and asked why this was happening. For those unaware, coniferous trees are evergreen and their leaves don't fall.

Reacting to this post, WM_PK-14 commented that it might be because the developers just copied and pasted the code. They added it will probably be fixed in the next snapshot.

CookieArtzz added that the developers at Mojang had a winter break, and this update drop is probably only a week’s worth of work. It's quite likely that the upcoming update will refine these features and make them better.

Answering the question posed by the original poster, ConsistentOrange5699 asked why apples fall from oak trees, pointing out the absurdity of logic in the game. Niccin said this is something they're hoping Mojang would address and change for almost 15 years.

logiscar239 added that apples fall from dark oak trees as well. mewmew34 joked that this happens because of magic, just like how players can punch a tree and get usable wood from it rather than destroying the hand.

New items coming to Minecraft

Of all the announcements made in the first update drop of 2025, perhaps the addition of two new pig variants was the most exciting news. Just like wolf variants found in different regions of the game, new pig types can be found in the colder and warmer regions of the blocky world.

This makes exploration more fun as players have the incentive to walk around and find a variety of animals. The list of flowers in the game is also increasing. Last year, the developers added interesting eyeblossom flowers. Now, wildflowers are coming to the green landscape of Minecraft.

Lodestones can now be crafted without a netherite block. All players need is a block of iron along with eight chiseled stone blocks. As mentioned, the falling leaf effect will make the game more immersive.
