There are many unexplained things in Minecraft that have intrigued players over the years. Fans have come up with countless theories trying to explain the origin of some mobs, items, and even some regions such as the deep dark. Regardless of their validity, these theories are certainly entertaining.

A Minecraft player and Reddit user by the name of Jrlopez1027_ shared an image on the subreddit of the game and put forward an interesting theory. The image shows a quartz pillar and an ancient debris block side by side. The theory states that quartz pillars and ancient debris are the same thing with one crucial difference; ancient debris are just quartz pillars that are thousands of years old.

The post was just a simple theory, but it prompted other players to share their theories about the possible origins of the ancient debris block. A Reddit user by the name of Authenticburst139 speculated that the ancient debris is just a mix of lava and quartz that became netherite after staying coagulated for thousands of years.

Another user by the name of ojokenobi replied to the comment saying that the process would be something similar to how coal gets compressed into diamond ores with all the heat and pressure over the years.

Reddit user freebird023 mentioned how they assumed ancient debris to be something like an iron-wood compound or just scrap metal shards. Another user by the name of Dray_Gunn suggested that ancient debris could be fossilized dung from some lost mob that may have lived in the Nether.

A user by the name of Had78 joked about the theory not making any sense only to change their statement mid-sentence saying that both of the blocks are found in the Nether, thereby implying some possible connection. Another user named TheRealBingBing pointed out that quartz in real life is already thousands of years old.

This is not the only fan-made theory that exists to explain different elements of the game. A different theory tried to explain how Allays and Vexes are the polar opposites of the same mob. While this could be true, it would be interesting to see all the theories that fans think up for the upcoming content.

The Tricky Trials update will add new mobs such as the breeze, the bogged, the trial chambers, the mace, the vault, the trial key, and much more. Fans may possibly come up with even more interesting theories explaining how the new elements of the game fit into the overall story. The Minecraft 1.21 update will be released on June 13, 2024.
