Mojang Studios recently announced that they will be changing Minecraft's update and feature release cycle in the coming days. The change is a welcome one as instead of saving new content for major update drops, the developers will add more interesting features in smaller updates. Not only will this change the way Minecraft updates were released in the past, but it might also boost the player base.
Here is everything to know about the feature frequency change in Minecraft updates.

Increasing the frequency of updates with new features
In their latest blog post, Mojang Studios explained how they planned to revamp their current update cycle. The developers usually announce an update in the second half of the year before releasing it next summer around the month of June.
This will now change as Mojang will be releasing free updates throughout the year. All these updates will vary in size and bring various new features for players to experience. The developers are calling these regular content updates "game drops".
Mojang Studios did try this approach back in December 2023, when they released an incremental update that comprised an overhauled bat model and a functionality change for the decorated pot, among other things. Most recently, they also brought the 1.20.5 Armored Paws update that introduced the Armadillo mob and wolf armor right before the 1.21 major update.
These kinds of smaller updates with new and interesting features will be more frequent in the future. Along with these bite-sized updates, Mojang Studios stated that they will also be working on the overarching future of the sandbox.
Two Minecraft Live to announce these updates
With more frequent game updates, Mojang Studios has also decided to divide their annual Minecraft live event into two parts. They announced that they will host two events in a year, showcasing what they have been working on and also announcing the next set of updates coming to the sandbox.
Another major announcement was the scrapping of mob vote competition. The developers will no longer introduce three mobs and ask the community to vote for one. Instead, they mentioned that they will be working on something new for the next live event, details of which have yet to be revealed.
