Minecraft has been one of the most popular games for ages now. Despite millions playing it, there are many aspects of the title that even veteran players might be unaware of. This includes hidden gameplay mechanics, structures, and workarounds that many players might not know about. Since this is the month of Halloween, it is the perfect time for finding a rare, spooky village in the game.

There is a small chance that players might come across a spooky, abandoned village that was added to the game eight years ago. These villages do not have any residents and are also referred to as “zombie villages.” Here’s everything you need to know about these rare structures in Minecraft.

These spooky, abandoned villages were added to Minecraft with the 1.10 update in 2016. This update also added magma blocks, bone blocks, polar bears, strays, and husks.

Finding these zombie villages is difficult as there is a mere 2% chance that you will come across these structures. Apart from the lack of any villagers in the houses, another tell-tale sign of these villages is the presence of cobwebs all over the houses. Even the cobblestone structures in these villages are replaced with mossy cobblestone.

Another interesting difference between these villages and normal villages is how the glass looks. The houses have brown stained glass instead of normal clear glass. This represents the dirt that has accumulated over time. Players might also find zombie villagers if the area is not completely abandoned. These structures also lack doors and torches.

How to find the spooky villages

Mojang has not divulged an official way to find these villages. The only thing players can do is explore the world and hope that they come across one. However, they can use third-party services such as Chunk Base to find these structures.

All they need to do is input their seed value. This will give them a map of their world with all the structures labeled around the spawn point. They just have to locate these abandoned villages, note down the coordinates, and then head over to the place.

Abandoned villages offer a great option for players who want to build something spooky. They can make a large gothic castle around the village to enhance the horror-like ambiance.
