Minecraft fans react to Java Edition's new boat feature in Tricky Trials update

Minecraft gets new features with every update, and the Tricky Trials update was no exception. It added a ton of new items to the game, including new mobs, a weapon, and a new area called the Trial Chambers to explore. But, it appears fans are more impressed and excited about a feature that has just come from the Bedrock Edition of the game - the ability to leash a boat.

This feature was available for the Bedrock Edition of the game for years but has just been added to Java Edition with the Minecraft 1.21 update. It lets players tie a boat to themselves and take it wherever they go.

Reddit user Internal-Put-1419 shared an image of them pulling two boats with villagers in the Minecraft subreddit.

The community went on to share their opinion about the “new” feature. User billyb0bjoejrthe3rd pointed out that this is not a new feature as it has been ported to Java from the Bedrock Edition. The original poster replied saying that they do not play the Bedrock Edition:

User Xcissors280 said that it is a very useful feature to have even though it has been in Bedrock for years. In their response, the original poster made the assumption that the Bedrock Edition only allowed villagers on lead but not boats. This was not correct. Xcissors280 replied that Bedrock Edition has always allowed boats on lead:

Reacting to the absurdity of the image showing two villagers being tied and taken away, many players joked about it as well.

User RandoSal commented how the Minecraft Java 1.21 update is in fact the "human trafficking" update. The original poster joked that they should become an activist and start protesting for NPC rights:

User my_tag_is_OJ asked whether they could do this in the Vanilla Java Edition of the game without using any mods. User damljanovic_86_ replied saying it can be done on the 1.21 version of the game.

The line between Java and Bedrock Minecraft is thinning

Many of the features from the Bedrock Edition have been added to the Java Edition of the game and vice versa. Bedrock now has Java's world generation, while Java gets the leash-on-boat feature. Perhaps Mojang Studios will fully remove the distinction between the two editions of the game at some point.

The Bedrock Edition was made to run on lower-end devices, such as smartphones and consoles. But in this day and age, smartphones are more powerful than older computers. Since Microsoft sells both versions of the game as a bundle, it would be better for them to just make one definitive version of Minecraft.
