Minecraft fans want Mojang to add dye-able redstone lamps

One of the major reasons why Minecraft has stayed relevant and popular for over 15 years is the constant updates it receives. With this, new content is added to the game, keeping things fresh and unique. But sometimes, the developers at Mojang Studios take too much time to deliver too little. There are many features that fans have been asking for years and yet, it may appear only in the future. One such simple feature is dye-able Redstone lamps.

A Minecraft player and Reddit named yonkzoid shared an image of a dye-able Redstone lamp on the game's subreddit, asking the developers to add it to the vanilla game. Currently, players can only add this item with mods. Thus, it's surprising that the developers have not already added it, as dye-able Redstone lamps can open new possibilities.

User TwentyVirus103 commented that they do not understand why Mojang Studios has not added this feature, considering it is quite simple, and added that with the size of the development team, it can be done in an hour. Note that While it is a simple feature, adding it in an hour would be impossible. But the gist of it remains the same.

Another user named woalk commented that there is a problem with adding such items without changing the rendering engine, as these blocks would require the game to output colored light which it currently does not support.

User Scarlavein commented that they would not mind if it was just the texture changing the color of the light without needing any major change to the rendering engine.

Another user, idkdudejustkillme, said Mojang Studios would give reasons, such as “it would limit creativity” and not add it. This is a callback to how one of the developers said that adding vertical slabs would limit the creativity of the game, which does not make sense.

Another user named mono8321 said they think it’s a design choice, just like the game does not have dye-able wood but rather wood types.

User Shack691 questioned the point of having different-colored Redstone bulbs if they produced light of the same color. Another user HororOne837 said that having different colored Redstone blocks would look great for different builds, just like many blocks have no functionality but are used for building.

The Tricky Trials update added the vault to the game and updated the copper and tuff blocks. This was much needed, as copper, despite being abundant in the game, was fairly useless.

However, having copper block variants allows players to make their builds look better. Perhaps Mojang Studios should add more variations to the already present blocks, which would be much better than adding a new block or two. Maybe the 1.22 update could do such a thing.
