In Minecraft, players need to survive various dangerous situations to progress in the game. One common peril is falling from great heights and succumbing to fall damage, something many experience in their survival worlds. Over the years, however, the community has found ways to counteract this issue.

One such method involved exploiting a bug that allowed players to completely negate fall damage without using any special techniques. This glitch was first found nearly 12 years ago when Mojang Studios' game was still in its early years,. However, it has been resolved with the latest Java Edition snapshot.

When Minecraft players fall from a height, the game's gravity physics applies to them, and their speed starts increasing more and more. This also increases the amount of fall damage they will experience upon landing.

However, players discovered that if they close that survival world right before landing hard on a block and then reopen it, their health will remain intact and they will not suffer any fall damage. This bug was only applicable to single-player and LAN worlds.

The exploit was first reported in October 2012 on Mojang Studios’ bug tracker, specifically for game version 1.4.2. The bug quickly gained attention, with 40 duplicate reports and 117 votes in favor of fixing it.

Despite being widely known, Mojang did not address the issue for 12 years, allowing players to continue exploiting the fall damage bug to evade death in single-player or LAN worlds.

With the recent Minecraft Java Edition snapshot version 24w45a, Mojang finally resolved the long-standing fall damage bug. In the patch notes for the update, the developer explained what changes it made to the game and listed a few bug fixes. Since this glitch was extremely old, it was the first to be addressed.

With this fix, players will no longer be able to close and reopen their world just before a fall to avoid taking damage.
