Minecraft's The Garden Awakens was the latest update Mojang released for the sandbox game. This update brought the Creaking mob and the Pale Garden biome, along with several new building blocks. While players are still exploring and enjoying the spooky new biome and creature, many could now be waiting or speculating about Minecraft's future as it enters its 16th year.

Though there is no news or even a hint about future updates, we are free to speculate on what Mojang could cook for the block game.

What could Minecraft's future update consist of?

1) Smaller updates to the End

For several years now, Minecraft's player base has been eagerly waiting for an End update, through which Mojang updates the desolate realm. The block game has received a major Nether update, and loads of Overworld updates in the past. Hence, many are still eagerly waiting for the third and final dimension to be updated.

Recently, Mojang updated its development cycle and how it will push updates going forward. In a blog post back in September 2024, they talked about how they were going to release several smaller updates called 'game drops' instead of larger major updates.

After The Garden Awakens Drop, there is a chance that Mojang could start adding new features to the End realm through several smaller game drops throughout 2025.

2) Major update with a new dimension

Minecraft 1.21 was the last major update that Mojang released in June 2024. It added the trial chamber structure with loads of new blocks, mechanics, and rewards. It also changed the entire bad omen status effect. Since then, the developer has not talked about any major updates coming to Minecraft. They have mainly focused on releasing smaller game drops like Bundles of Bravery and Garden Awakens.

In the blog post where they announced a change in development cycle, they mentioned that they will now focus on game drops, but also hinted that major updates for the game will still be released occasionally.

This could mean that Mojang may release a major update in 2025 that could have a much bigger feature list. One of the most anticipated big features players have craved is a new dimension.

Ever since Minecraft was released, it had three dimensions: Overworld, Nether, and End.

When the Ancient City and Warden were released in the 1.19 Wild update, many speculated that Mojang could soon release a brand new dimension that can be entered through the structure's center.

As of now, we do not have any news about what Mojang is cooking behind closed doors. Only time will tell what new updates will bring to the game.
