Over the years, Minecraft players have figured out unique ways to create all kinds of visual effects using simple blocks for their builds. The community has renovated entire ocean monuments and used blocks like flowers, amethyst clusters, and fences in unique ways to decorate structures. One unique method to use stained glass is to create a fog effect on the floor, so that the floor looks endless, with nothing but fog underneath it.

Here is a short guide on creating a fog effect using stained glass.

Steps to create fog effect in Minecraft using glass

1) Items and resource pack needed to create a fog effect

The four main resources you need to create a fog effect on the floor using glass are stained glass of any color, concrete block of any color, glowstone or any other full light block, and carpet of any color. Remember that the color of these three resources should be the same to create a seamless experience.

For a simple 2x2 fog floor, which will be shown in this guide, you only need four glowstone blocks, four carpets to cover the light blocks, and at least a stack of stained glass and concrete blocks to place on top.

Furthermore, you must download and install a resource pack that removes the borders from glass blocks. The resource pack is named Borderless Glass, and it will make the fog effect look cleaner when many glass blocks are placed on top of each other and adjacent to one another.

The pack can be downloaded from the Modrinth website and can be placed in the "resourcepacks" folder in Minecraft's root folder. Later, it can be activated by going to the resource packs option in the game settings. Thankfully, the resource pack supports version 1.21.4.

2) Building the stained glass tower to get a fog effect

After getting the required items and the resource pack, you can start building the glass tower. Start by digging a long hole, approximately 20 to 22 blocks deep, and create a boundary on the sides of the hole inside which you would like to have the fog effect as a floor. Make the first layer of the boundary with the concrete blocks.

Then, inside the first layer of the boundary, place any full light block like glowstone or sea lantern. Fill the entire first layer with these light blocks, only leaving the boundary area that will have the concrete block. Cover the light blocks with carpets.

Next, start extending the boundary vertically by making it two blocks taller. On the second block of the boundary, place the first layer of stained glass on top of all the light and carpet blocks. Extend the boundary two more blocks and then place another layer of stained glass.

Repeat the process to fill the hole with stained glass on alternate layers and keep building the boundary with concrete glass. Once you reach the surface, multiple layers of stained glass placed on alternate layers will give a fog effect to the floor.
