The copper grate is a Minecraft block that can be crafted using copper blocks and is used for decoration. These were added with a recent update named Tricky Trials, in which Mojang also added the new Trial Chamber structure that they generate naturally. While copper grate blocks are a great addition for builders, they could have more uses for other kinds of Minecraft players.

Here are a few ways in which Mojang could improve copper grate to be a unique block in Minecraft.

Ways in which Minecraft's copper grate can be improved

All fluids should flow through copper grates instead of being waterlogged

Similar to how smoke can completely pass through copper grate blocks, Mojang should have made it so that all fluids did the same, including lava. As of now, copper grate blocks can only be waterlogged, a state in which a block is filled with water but does not let it flow through it.

First, this can change into water being able to flow through a copper grate since it has holes on all six faces. Furthermore, a copper grate could also become the first block that can hold lava inside itself and let it flow through the holes in the block.

Though keeping lava inside a copper grate will not be scientifically accurate since lava melts copper, certain things in Minecraft also go against science. It is worth noting that only a few features in the block game follow real-life physics properly.

If fluids, including lava, flow through copper grate blocks instead of just being waterlogged, it will give a unique purpose to the block and players will be able to use it in many creative ways.

Though a copper grate block has small holes that let smoke through, it could also let dropped items through it as well.

Mojang should add a unique feature that lets dropped items go through copper grates because of all the holes the block has. One of the best uses for this mechanic can be seen in farms or storage sorting systems. Players can place copper grate blocks to fill the empty areas through which an item passes, making a safe channel for them.

Furthermore, if fluids can flow through copper grate blocks, they can be neatly placed in the water trench area and players can flow water through them. Various items can then flow through the trench and the copper grates without any issue.
