When the Creaking and Pale Garden was first released in Minecraft snapshots and beta/preview versions of the game, many players found a special connection between the Illager mob group and the new wood-like creature. Initially, players only noticed how they reacted to each other. However, it was later discovered that they share a deeper connection.
Several features and hints make the connection between the Illagers, the Creaking, and the Pale Garden biome quite evident. Here are all the speculated lore connections between the two mobs and the new biome.

Lore links between Illagers, the Creaking, and Pale Garden in Minecraft
Illagers are scared of Creaking
When the Creaking mob was first released in Minecraft snapshots, it was noticed that the illagers were the only mobs scared by them. Despite being some of the strongest hostile mobs, they tended to avoid the Creaking, while every other hostile, neutral, or passive mob was indifferent to the wood-like mob.
This strange behavior was the first sign of some connection between the Creaking and Illagers.
Pale Garden looks similar to Dark Forest
Along with the Creaking, the Pale Garden biome was also released in snapshots and beta/preview versions. Interestingly, this new biome is pretty similar to the Dark Forest, where dark oak trees make up a dense jungle, hardly allowing any sunlight to pass through to the ground.
Since the main stronghold of the Illagers, the Woodland Mansions, are only found in Dark Forests, the striking similarity between it and the new Pale Garden made it seem like the Illagers once used to live in the newly released biome back when it was just a forest.
Resin found in Woodland Mansions
Mojang later added new resin clumps to the Pale Garden biome. Resin is a brand new item that generates whenever players try to hit the Creaking mob. It is generated on pale oak log blocks that are located near the Creaking's heart block. Moreover, this new material can be obtained by scraping it off the pale oak trees or by destroying the heart block itself.
On the other hand, there is another, completely unrelated place where these resins can be found. These new items have a 16% chance of being in one of the chests found in Woodland Mansions, which are the Illagers' strongholds.
Hence, it is quite probable that the Illagers used to live in the Dark Forest and discovered resin when they fought the Creaking after they converted the biome into the Pale Garden.
Another story could be that Illagers found the Pale Garden while randomly patrolling through the land. However, they soon discovered that the Creaking could not be killed using physical attacks. In this terrified state, they might have come across resin clumps, which they quickly gathered before running for their lives.
Vex and Evoker's fangs have a similar pale color as the Pale Garden
When Allays were first introduced in Minecraft, they were found in prison cells in Woodland Mansions. This made it apparent that Illagers, especially Evokers, were using them to convert into Vexes, which are hostile pixie-like mobs. The Allays looked quite similar to Vexes, which further solidified this lore theory.
With the addition of the Pale Garden, another link can be made between the vexes and the new biome. Since Vexes have a similar color as the pale oak trees, there could be lore that connects their creation to the Pale Garden biome itself.
