Minecraft Java 1.21.2 update: What you need to know

After Mojang Studios released Minecraft Java Edition 1.21 Tricky Trials update, they started working on smaller incremental updates to fix any issues related to the new features. They already released the 1.21.1 update, and are now preparing the 1.21.2 update. This upcoming update will be bigger than the first one since it adds a few new features to Java Edition. It is worth mentioning that the developers have not announced any release date for it.

The following are some of the major additions and changes coming with the Minecraft 1.21.2 update.

Reduce FPS

With the Minecraft 1.21.2 update, Mojang Studios will be releasing a new optimization feature called Reduce FPS. As the name suggests, this feature automatically reduces the game's FPS if the game is either inactive or minimized. One of the two options can be chosen by going into video settings in the game.

It is a great feature if players want their devices to take a breather when they are AFK or give device resources to another task when the game is minimized.

Banner patterns

Two new banner patterns are also arriving with the 1.21.2 update. Both of them come from Bedrock Edition as a way to further increase parity between both editions of the game.

The field-masoned banner pattern can be made by placing a piece of paper and a block of brick onto the crafting table. While the bordure indented banner pattern can be made by replacing the block of brick with a vine.

Both these banner patterns were present in Bedrock Edition since 2019, and are finally being added to Java Edition as well.

Fast Crafting

When players need to craft the same item repeatedly, they usually place a stack of items in a particular configuration repeatedly. This can be tedious when making loads of items at once.

Hence, Mojang Studios introduced an easier way to do so in recent snapshots for the 1.21.2 update. Fast crafting was introduced, through which players can select a crafting recipe from the green book on the crafting table, place the initial few items by clicking on the item, and then press space to place the crafting ingredients again and again onto the same crafting slot.

This way, players can press space and make one kind of item quickly.

Changes in Minecraft 1.21.2 update

There are loads of smaller quality-of-life changes coming to the new incremental update.

New banner pattern icons are being added, bundles remain under experimental but receive a few sound and model changes, Breeze has no minimum attack distance, trial chamber chests are replaced with hoppers and barrels, and several item rarity changes.
