Mojang recently released a new Minecraft snapshot (25w02a) and beta/preview (1.21.60.25) versions that introduce lots of new features that will be released in the upcoming game drop. One of the most interesting and exciting features was the change in the lodestone's crafting recipe. Mojang finally decided to make lodestones extremely easy to craft.
An argument can be made that because of an easy crafting recipe, lodestone will not only be used for its primary function but also as a special building block.

How lodestone's upcoming crafting recipe in Minecraft could encourage players to use it as a building block
Lodestone's current crafting recipe is extremely expensive
We must first take a look at the lodestone's current crafting recipe in order to comprehend how its new crafting recipe can make it into a viable building block.
A lodestone is a block that can be connected to any compass such that the compass points towards the block's location. This feature works in all three dimensions of the game.
However, because lodestone currently requires netherite ingot as a crafting material, it is regarded as an incredibly costly block. This is because players must travel to the Nether and mine for hours in order to locate ancient debris, a block from which netherite ingot can be crafted.
Since ancient debris is an extremely rare block to find in the Nether, using a netherite ingot to craft a lodestone is usually considered expensive and somewhat useless.
Lodestone's new crafting recipe makes it extremely easy to make
With the latest Minecraft snapshot and beta/preview, Mojang decided to make the block's crafting recipe a lot simpler. They replaced the need for a netherite ingot with an iron ingot. The block will be crafted using eight chiseled stone bricks, and one iron ingot.
Since players can easily obtain iron ingots by mining for a few minutes, they can easily craft lodestone blocks to help them navigate through the world.
What's more interesting is that there is a chance that players might use lodestone blocks as a building block as well. This is because many players have iron farms in their worlds, churning out hundreds of iron ingots. Hence, they can choose to use lodestone as a building block, particularly because of its fascinating 3D-like design.
It can be used to create secret doorways, floors, and even walls in various kinds of structures.
As of now, Mojang has not confirmed when lodestone's new crafting recipe will officially be released in Minecraft.
