Warner Brothers Hollywood production house recently released the trailer for the original Minecraft movie. They showcased that it would be a live-action film, with famous actors like Jason Momoa and Jack Black as characters inside an animated game world. Though this is a film about the sandbox game, it adds various features that are not present in the vanilla version.

The trailer shows that the film could have lots of third-party features that are obtained through mods, and even a storyline from Mojang Studios' other game, Minecraft Legends.

Where were mod features evident in the trailer?

On several instances in the Minecraft movie trailer, it was evident that the filmmakers were not going for a completely raw and traditional vanilla experience. Right in the beginning, several trees can be seen with different-sized branches, something which is not present in the base game. This variation in branches comes from a popular mod called Dynamic Trees.

Furthermore, there is a scene in the trailer where Jason Momoa's character creates what looks like double buckets attached to a chain. Since players can only make a single bucket, this could have also come from a mod.

Even the textures of the world created in the film look like a highly-realistic texture pack have been used. It also looks like the movie uses a shader pack.

The village and tower itself that were showcased in the trailer do not look anything like those in the vanilla version. The filmmakers were most probably inspired from a mod that enhanced these structures and added them to the film.

Minecraft Legends lore in the film

In the original version of the game, piglins are neutral mobs that live in the Nether and do not attack players if they wear gold armor.

In the official movie trailer, however, these mobs seem to be mostly hostile towards the real-life characters and even raid the entire Overworld realm by coming through Nether portals. This does not resemble the original sandbox game, but matches Mojang Studios' relatively new game, Minecraft Legends.

In that game, the main storyline showcases piglins as the main villain and how they raid the Overworld with all kinds of new contraptions like hot air balloons, new weapons, armor, etc.

While the film is solely about the sandbox game, at least as per currently available information, this twist comes from Mojang Studios' other game.
