Minecraft could plan to update the entire Overworld before focusing on an End update

Minecraft has three realms: Overworld, Nether, and End. Over the years, the game's developer, Mojang, has updated all three of these realms, bringing new content to keep these dimensions fresh. However, they have been focusing on Overworld quite a bit recently, to the point where Nether and End have not received any major updates in about four years.

Going forward, it can be speculated that Mojang will continue to update the Overworld entirely before shifting its focus to other dimensions.

Reasons why Mojang could focus on completely updating Minecraft Overworld before focusing on an End update

Overworld is the largest dimension in terms of biomes and mobs

It is safe to say that Overworld is the biggest dimension in Minecraft, in terms of types of biomes, mobs, and structures, even before Mojang started adding new features to it through recent updates.

After the Nether update was released in 2019, the developers completely shifted their focus to the Overworld, and have continued to add new features to it. They updated a few existing features like world generation, ore block textures, ore distribution, and boats while adding new ones such as cave biomes and underground structures.

Despite all this, most Overworld areas still feel like they can benefit massively from an update. Furthermore, Mojang has not hinted at concluding its Overworld overhaul era anytime soon. Their most recent update, The Garden Awakens Drop, added a brand new Pale Garden biome, the Creaking mob, a new wood set, and new resin blocks to the game.

Since the developers have continued to work on the first dimension even after changing their development cycle, it could mean that they will continue to bring small changes to the Overworld through drops.

Companies like Mojang Studios are massive, so much so that they have teams working on future plans well ahead of time. Hence, there is a chance that they could be planning to update each realm one by one.

Back in 2019, the 1.16 Nether update was one of the biggest the developers released. It completely changed the hellish realm, bringing loads of new features to it. This can be considered the main update through which Mojang completely updated the Nether according to their vision.

Following this update, they have been doing nothing but expanding the Overworld as much as possible.

Hence, this pattern could mean that they might not focus on the End till they are satisfied with their work in the Overworld. Once they complete updating the Overworld, there is a strong chance that they will turn their heads toward the third and last dimension in Minecraft.
