Many Minecraft players have amazed the community with their brilliant projects. From massive builds such as large Gothic castles, mountains, and even fictional cities to complicated machines and computers with working displays, they have built a range of astounding structures. While most of these builds often require mods, some players prefer going Vanilla.
This is exactly what Minecraft player and Reddit user Iztroth did when they created a working train without the use of any mods. For years, players have been asking for trains to be added in Minecraft, but Mojang Studios has not done so. This has led to some players taking matters into their own hands.
The video shows a large train with a steam engine that appears to be moving on normal rail tracks. The user even built complete stations, tunnels, and fences around the tracks.

Reacting to this build, user LazerMagicarp said that the moment they saw the area, they realized that it was the Calamari desert (Kalimari) and asked the original poster if this was a racing map. Kalimari desert is a map in the Mario Kart game. The original poster replied that they were indeed developing a Mario Kart project in Minecraft.
User VedrfolnirsVision assumed the train is made of retextured minecarts and minecart furnaces along with additional particles for creating the smoke trails. The original poster replied, saying that they placed armor stands with brick items on the head onto the minecarts to make the coaches, while the engine was made using ObjMC, a tool that allows players to add 3D items in the game.

User casultran asked how the OP makes trains, which then led to an interesting discussion. Breyck_version_2 said that the OP used a data pack. User TheChocolateManLives said that most of the “no mods” in the game are actually mods in some way.

Meanwhile, RRR3000 explained that a mod modifies a game while a datapack uses the already-present game's features and commands in a new way. They insinuated that the original poster did not use any “mod,” as the latter simply changed the existing features in the game.
Trains in Minecraft

The closest thing one can get to a train is the minecart. While they have remained an iconic element of the game, Mojang Studios has not included them. Fortunately for gamers, the recently released snapshot 24w33a added some experimental changes to it that made it so much better.
These changes have given players the ability to increase the speed of minecarts drastically. It has also improved how minecarts move and behave. The only thing needed now is the ability to chain minecarts together so that they can be made into small trains. Hopefully, with the 1.22 update, Mojang Studios might consider incorporating this feature.
