Minecraft player shares interesting concept idea for waterproof redstone

Minecraft has a lot of interesting items and game mechanics that allow players to make brilliant structures. One such item is the Redstone, which allows signals to travel across a distance, and this simple mechanic allows some great builds such as simple automatic machines to fully functioning games and computers. But there’s one issue with Redstone: it is not waterproof. To be specific, Redstone dust acts like a wire and gets uprooted when it comes in contact with water.

A Minecraft player and Reddit user named u/Klight101 shared an image showing the concept of making waterproof Redstone dust.

Interestingly, this concept adds a lot of uses for other items in the game that do not have much use. Here’s the gist of it:

Players use the grindstone to make copper dust from copper ingots but both have little to no use. The copper dust cannot be placed like Redstone dust. However, using the crafting table, it can be combined with Redstone dust to make it water-proof.

But this comes with a trade-off. Using copper dust reduces the Redstone dust's signal-carrying capacity. It will have a power of 0-8 instead of 0-15. Also, exposed waterproof Redstone will oxidize in time, reducing the signal strength. Preventing this requires players to use a honey comb on it, or add it during the crafting process to make waxed copper Redstone dust.

A user named u/tomalator commented that they would like to combine copper ingot with Redstone dust to make Redstone wire. Everything about this item will remain the same as the original concept with the only exception that it can only be connected to normal Redstone with a repeater.

User u/MrCobalt313 agreed that it would be a great idea to combine both Redstone and copper and make wires out of them. This would not only be great for Redstone builds but also add more use for the copper block. The 1.21 update added copper block variants, giving more uses for it. But it can always benefit from more uses.

User u/yourgoodoldpal commented that getting a wire for Redstone would be great as it would allow for vertical placement for it. Another user, u/justaruss, said that this idea would perfectly fit in with vanilla Minecraft as the game has new blocks, like the crafter, the observer, slime blocks, etc.

User u/Kerzenmacher commented that they like the idea of combining the two items but would prefer the alloy to have more signal strength as copper is an excellent conductor. Another user, u/Roryn1209, commented that this would make the regular Redstone obsolete.

Redstone is one of the most interesting items in the game as it allows players to create things that almost seem impossible. For example, a player recently made a functioning Rubik’s Cube inside the game. Another user made a Minesweeper game within Minecraft, and the list goes on.

However, players do not have to be excellent Redstone engineers to make complex structures. Redstone allows for simple builds as well that can make the gameplay experience even more fun. Perhaps Mojang Studios could bring some updates to it in the 1.22 update, maybe Redstone wires?
