Minecraft's nether fortresses and bastion remnant structures are a core part of the Nether. However, some fans seem to be having some trouble finding them, as evidenced by a recent subreddit post by the user u/Ficers, who remarked that they were dissatisfied with the random number generation (RNG) of finding the structures.
While each Minecraft world seed generates its structures differently, some place structures like nether fortresses and bastion remnants quite far apart, making finding them without using a seed map a bit tricky.
Many players in the comments echoed u/Ficers' sentiments, remarking that roaming the Nether to find its structure can be tedious and even irritating.

Some players even floated the suggestion that Mojang should introduce explorer map variants that work in the Nether to Minecraft, or perhaps an item that can locate fortresses and bastions that can be bartered for with piglins.
Whatever the case, short of using an online seed map that marks structure coordinates or using cheats/commands, some seeds aren't conducive to finding fortresses/bastions.
Meanwhile, other fans shared their own stories on difficulties finding the right Nether structures in Minecraft. Some stated that they could find bastions but not fortresses and vice versa. Meanwhile, a few fans remarked that they preferred to work to find these structures as a challenge compared to those in the Overworld.
However, it's important to note that each player's experience is vastly different due in no small part to the virtually endless amount of world seeds that can be played. Each distinct seed offers its own assortment of structure and terrain generation across all three in-game dimensions. Some will naturally be better for finding nether fortresses and bastion remnants than others.
The discussion has continued well beyond the post's July 10 publish date, which does leave one to wonder if fans might have a point. Should Mojang introduce some means of making the process of finding nether fortresses and bastion remnants a bit easier?
Should Mojang change spawning behavior for nether fortresses and bastion remnants in Minecraft?
With some players having trouble finding nether fortresses and bastion remnants, should Mojang tweak how these structures generate to be more accommodating? One could make an argument either way, but all things considered, unless many more fans voice their displeasure, this issue doesn't seem to be all that urgent when it comes to Mojang's sandbox title.
Minecraft still has plenty of problems that have plagued it for years and remain in the game, some of which can be much more difficult to deal with than finding two structures in the Nether. This isn't to say that Mojang shouldn't completely overlook player feedback, but they may want to prioritize other issues first. Once they're addressed, perhaps Mojang can circle back to Nether structure generation.
The exception is if the structure generation mechanics could be fixed quickly and easily. In this case, Mojang might consider making changes and publishing them to upcoming Java snapshots and Bedrock previews to allow players to test them out and see if they're worth keeping.
