Creaking vs other mobs
The Creaking is one tough cookie. Unlike other mobs, it doesn’t take damage. Not from swords, arrows, or even TNT. It can face off against a Warden for an unlimited amount of time and come out unscathed. It moves when you’re not looking. Turn your back, and it’ll come sprinting after you.
Attacking the mob triggers a particle trail leading to the tree containing its heart — the creaking heart block. Destroy that block, and the mob falls.
In the "All About The Pale Garden" video, there is a discussion comparing Creaking and enderman. Mojang developers suggested that the two were like fire and ice; you can’t look at one and have to constantly look at the other.
The Creaking’s design
Mojang wanted it to imitate a tree but also gave it a distinct asymmetrical look to set it apart from Minecraft’s usual mobs. During its development, the design team tried some pretty wild ideas — adding more eyes, giving it mossy hair, and even experimenting with peculiar poses.
The Creaking was designed to blend seamlessly with its surroundings. From a distance, you might mistake it for an eyeblossom flower. In the video, we get a glimpse at one of its previous designs.
Gameplay features
The new mob brings more than just jump scares; it adds unique gameplay elements to Minecraft. When you hit a Creaking, resin clumps form around the heart block. When broken, it drops resin clumps, which can be refined into resin bricks. These can later be crafted into stairs, slabs, walls, and other kinds of blocks.
These bright orange blocks are perfect for building any lava-related builds, complementing the pale oak or any vibrant builds. You can use the mob and its heart to farm for resin.
With its haunting design, fun mechanics, and spooky sounds, the Creaking is shaping up to be one of the most innovative mobs in Minecraft’s history. Mojang promises endless creative possibilities, and we’re here for it.
