Minecraft reveals features for the first 2025 game drop, including new pigs, wildflowers, and more

Minecraft fans are in for some exciting news. Mojang Studios has announced the first update drop for 2025 and it will add a ton of exciting new items and mobs. The official social media handle of the game did post some cryptic pictures indicating the upcoming item, but not a lot of players expected to get a new mob variant. The blocky world will now have three different types of pigs along with wildflowers, and falling leaf particles.

Officially titled snapshot 25w02a for the Java edition of Minecraft, the update drop brings four new features to the game. It will also tweak the crafting recipe for lodestone. While many other changes will have an impact on gameplay, this article will focus on the four major features. Players can read more about the minor changes in the official changelog.

Apart from the normal pig variant, Minecraft is getting two new variants of this pink mob. There will be a cold variant that can be found in cooler biomes, which includes:

• Old Growth Pine Taiga
• Old Growth Spruce Taiga
• Taiga
• Snowy Taiga
• Windswept Hills
• Windswept Gravelly Hills
• Windswept Forest

On the other hand, the warm variant of the pig will be visually distinct with a dark orange texture. Players can locate this version in the following areas:

• Savanna
• Savanna Plateau
• Windswept Savanna
• Jungle
• Sparse Jungle
• Bamboo Jungle
• Eroded Badlands
• Wooded Badlands
• Badlands

An important thing worth noting is that breeding depends on the parent variants and not the biome. So when two different pigs are bred, the offspring’s variant will be randomly selected from either of the parents.

The other major features will improve the experience of exploring the blocky world. The cherry blossom biome was a joy to find just because of its ambiance. The falling leaves beautify the entire area, and this effect can now be seen in almost every biome, including:

• Dark Oak Leaves

The falling leaf particles will fall on the ground and form leaf litter, which is another new item coming to the game. This item can be collected and placed in four different orientations or used as fuel for smelting. The update will also add wildflowers that can be found in birch forests, old-growth birch forests, and meadows.
