Minecraft's rarest and strongest food item became relatively common with new updates

Minecraft has loads of food items that players can eat to replenish their hunger and health bar. While most of them can be crafted with different ingredients, a select few can only be obtained as chest loot. The rarest food item in the game is an enchanted golden apple, which not only offers extra hearts of health but gives various positive status effects to help a player out of a dire situation.

In previous years, an enchanted golden apple was extremely hard to find. But with recent updates, Mojang Studios has made an enchanted golden apple much more common.

How Mojang made enchanted golden apple relatively common with recent Minecraft updates

1.16 Nether Update - Bastion Remnants

In 2019, Mojang Studios released the 1.16 Nether update, in which it added loads of features to the hellish realm. Additions include new structures, mobs, and mechanics for players to explore in the Nether.

Bastion Remnants was one of the biggest additions with the update. It was a structure that housed newly added piglin mobs and contained several chests with some of the best loot in Minecraft.

Prior to Bastion Remnants, an enchanted golden apple was most commonly found in Dungeons and Woodland Mansions with only 3.1% chance. The new Nether structure, however, had a 5.9% chance of spawning the special food item in one of its chests.

1.19 Wild Update - Ancient City

Fast forward to 2021, Mojang Studios released the 1.19 Wild update that introduced a new structure named Ancient City. This instantly became one of the scariest creations by virtue of the Warden mob spawning if players made too much noise.

Since this structure was extremely difficult to loot, developers added some of the best items as chest loot, including the enchanted golden apple. The magical food item had an 8.4% chance of generating in one of many chests present in an Ancient City, which was much more than Bastion Remnants.

1.21 Tricky Trials update - Trial Chambers

The latest structure Mojang Studios added to Minecraft was Trial Chambers, which was introduced in the 1.21 Trick Trials update in 2024. This structure had new trial spawners that summoned several mobs and rewarded players with various items, including trial keys. These keys can be used to unlock trial vaults that offer even more valuable loot.

If players enter a trial chamber with a bad omen, they will begin a new ominous event, in which every trial spawner converts into an ominous variant, summoning more powerful creatures. The block will then offer an ominous trial key, through which an ominous trial vault can be opened inside the structure.

This ominous trial vault has a 22.5% chance of rewarding a player with an enchanted golden apple.

As of now, trial chambers have the highest chance of offering players enchanted golden apples in Minecraft.
