Minecraft The Anomaly mod: Features, installation guide, and more

Minecraft mods that offer a horror experience have become quite popular in recent months. Many of these are inspired by the original cave dweller mod and add terrifying hostile mobs for players to attempt to stave off. One of the most interesting of these cave dweller-inspired mods is The Anomaly, created by the user clorobored.

An overview of The Anomaly mod, along with instructions for how to install it, can be found detailed below.

Creator clorobored has repeatedly mentioned in The Anomaly's description that it's meant to be played mostly blind and that they won't be responding to any questions regarding it's behavior. There will be no major spoilers to respect the enigmatic aspects of the mod that clorobored wants to push.

However, there are plenty of things okay to say about The Anomaly. As with many Minecraft horror mods, it adds a hostile mob, aptly known as the Anomaly, that can spawn on the surface at night or in caves.

These mobs wander around aimlessly until they're spotted by a player. Once this happens, the entity will begin stalking you. Every time you sleep, there's a chance for the Anomaly to become bolder and more aggressive.

Unfortunately, that's about all that clorobored has stated about the Anomaly in the mod's description. There are a few more ominous statements, however, including a warning to hide one's pets in Minecraft. There's also one that states the Anomaly may or may not follow the player back to base at any time.

Interestingly enough, The Anomaly mod takes a bit of inspiration from analog horror and internet ARGs. The main page suggests that there may be hints hidden within the mod's changelogs. Sure enough, navigating to release 1.0.9 will give a hint as to a drastic change made in the version: The Anomaly is killable. To honor the mysterious nature of this hint, that's all that will be said here.

Everything you need to know about installing Minecraft's The Anomaly mod

1) Launch CurseForge

As with many other mods, the first thing you'll need to do to install The Anomaly is open the CurseForge launcher. Since this is where clorobored decided to host their creation, this also means that any alternative Minecraft launcher capable of downloading from CurseForge will work perfectly fine for this.

2) Search for the mod

Next, you'll want to use the search bar located near the top of CurseForge to search for the mod. You'll want to specifically search for "anomaly" rather than "the anomaly," as including the word "the" will cause many different unrelated Minecraft mods to appear.

3) Install The Anomaly

Once you've located the mod within CurseForge, you'll want to hit the "Install" button to the right of it. Doing this will prompt you to either create a new installation for it or add it to a pre-existing CurseForge profile. You can use either option, depending on if you're starting a Minecraft modpack from scratch.

4) Add optional extra content

Make sure to also install GeckoLib before starting the game up, as it's required for The Anomaly to run properly. While installing extra content, you may also want to consider grabbing some shaders, Minecraft texture packs, or other mods to make the game even scarier.

5) Take on the night

Once you're done, return to the profile's main screen and hit Play. Load into a survial world and get ready for the potential threats added to deadly caves and harsh nights.
