Minecraft Tricky Trials update has an outdated Voluntary Exile advancement description

Minecraft got its much-anticipated Tricky Trials update on June 13, 2024, adding many new things. From new mobs and weapons to changing game mechanics, the update was substantial. But despite the game getting new items, some things are still not updated. One of these things is the "Voluntary Exile" advancement description.

The Tricky Trials update makes a bunch of new advancements to the game for all the new items, mobs, and mechanics that came along with it. But the developers also made some major changes to the already-existing mechanics. For example, the process of getting the Bad Omen effect has been completely changed.

Before the update, killing a raid captain would give the player the Bad Omen effect. After the update, the only way one can get this effect is by consuming the ominous bottle, another new item added with the update. Ominous bottles can be obtained from raid captains or from vaults, another new block that came with the 1.21 update.

But with all the new items and mechanics, one advancement has become outdated. Once the player gets a bad omen, the Voluntary Exile shows a message saying “Kill a raid captain.” This is outdated as killing raid captains doesn't give the bad omen effect.

Thanks to many people pointing out this outdated advancement, it has been noted by the developers at Mojang. This advancement error has been reported to the official bugs website. So, players can expect an update that fixes the description in the upcoming updates, most probably before the 1.22 update drops.

Thankfully, this is just an oversight and not a major issue that would affect the gameplay experience. Hence, it is being considered as a low-priority error. So, the developers may take their time changing it, as they have other major things on their plate.

The update added many new features, but perhaps the most exciting addition was the trial chambers, a new palatial structure that contains several rare loot items and challenging enemies, including two new hostile mobs called the breeze and the bogged.
