Minecraft update leak: All you need to know

A Minecraft update leak is always a moment of excitement for the community, and fans received one just a few days short of Saturday's Live 2024 presentation. Due to a mishap with the game's official website on September 24, 2024, which was archived via the Wayback Machine, Mojang may have inadvertently tipped its hand about a "Bundles of Bravery" game drop, a new biome, and a hostile mob.

Although any Minecraft update leak should be taken with a healthy dose of skepticism, the website archive shared by the community seems to have some credence. This is because a recent YouTube video on the game's official channel had its own horror-themed twist.

It appears that the purported Bundles of Bravery game drop may be a bit spookier than the last few content releases, or perhaps this horror theme is reserved for the 1.22 update.

On September 24, 2024, Mojang updated Minecraft.net but quickly reversed the changes. However, the fan community managed to capture images from the website ahead of its reversal, and copies of the front page were preserved on the Internet Archive at https://web.archive.org/web/20240924180401/https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/live and shared as a Minecraft update leak.

On the archived web page, fans saw what appears to be a pretty substantial leak ahead of the next major update's announcement during Minecraft Live 2024 on Saturday, September 28, 2024. The front page’s layout seemed designed for release after Live 2024 concluded, at which point the update’s information would have already been disclosed.

The front page directly name-drops "a pale garden biome" and a new hostile mob called the creaking. Next to an embedded video of the Minecraft Live 2024 stream, it also references "news on the Bundles of Bravery drop," leading many fans to believe that Bundles of Bravery may be the first "game drop" that Mojang announced as a way to add content to the game between major updates.

"Watch the replay of Minecraft LIVE. Broadcast from the Mojang HQ, we unveiled new features like the pale garden biome, news on the Bundles of Bravery drop, and more!" Minecraft.net, Internet Archive, September 24, 2024
"Get the latest and greatest news from this year’s show: A first look at the pale garden and its hostile mob—the creaking, insight into bundles and Hardcore mode, and exclusive info on A Minecraft Movie and our upcoming immersive experience, Minecraft Experience: Villager Rescue." - Minecraft.net, Internet Archive, September 24, 2024

The page leak also alluded to news about the upcoming Minecraft movie, as well as a new "immersive experience" called "Minecraft Experience: Villager Rescue". These additions to the site seem to be separate from the 1.22 update but are exciting nonetheless. However, the mystery seems to be building around the pale garden biome and the creaking hostile mob.

Few details on the Minecraft update leak itself have emerged since, but fans did appear to get more teases when the game's official YouTube channel posted a video titled "All About Minecraft Live 2024...", which ended with Mojang Chief Content Officer Vu Bui sharing a strange new mob sound and ending the video with a found footage horror-themed skit.

The spooky tidings continued with a recent Minecraft TikTok post, which shared a short video clip of an individual being stalked by a shadowy figure in a hallway, brandishing what appear to be three glowing orange eyes.

While it's understandable to take the Minecraft update leak with a grain of salt, Mojang's recent references to what seems to be a new and creepy hostile mob are leading some fans to think that the website leaks captured on the Internet Archive are legitimate.

The references to the creaking were found on the official website, and now Mojang's new videos seem to support them without name-dropping the mob.

The mystery is building in the moments leading up to Minecraft Live 2024, and the event will likely answer many of the questions that have floated around since September 24.

Mojang may have even more hints and tidbits in store in the lead-up to Live 2024, but the curiosity surrounding the Minecraft update leak and teasers shows no signs of stopping.
